This beach area is very large. It reaches from the Faro de Trafalgar to the beach of Bancos in Chiclana. This area is enormous. It stretches all the way from Trafalgar lighthouse to Los Bancos beach in Chiclana. It faces out towards the Atlantic; you can see some spectacular sunsets here.
We get very strong tides and currents here, especially the area surrounding the lighthouse. The seabed and cliffs create swirls and turbulence that can be very fatal to anyone swimming too far out. Every year there are tales of divers disappearing, especially in the Aceitera Zone.
This zone is extremely rich in fauna and there are many archeological remains to explore. It’s much appreciated by the local fishermen and divers.
There are no facilities here; no life gaurds, no showers, not even rubbish bins, yet this stretch of coastline is considered to be one of the best in the area. The landscape is completely natural and unspoilt. It's extremely peaceful here too.
During the winter months, lagoons form in the area surrounding the lighthouse. You can see all types of fascinating amphibians, reptiles and fish swimming in them. These lagoons dry up again, when the summer arrives. There are also many different species of coastal birds here - it’s a very popular bird watching spot. |
